The McCandless Athletic Association (MCAA) 12U Tournament team recently completed a memorable 2010 season with an overall record of 22 wins and 7 losses, three championships, and two second-place finishes.
The team kicked off the season in style by winning the 40th Annual Knights of Columbus Tournament, a traditional battle for baseball supremacy in the North Hills. Four players from MCAA were named to the KOC All-Tournament team. In the North Hills Wooden Bat Tournament, MCAA captured the championship in dramatic fashion defeating rival Ingomar with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. MCAA wrapped up the season by finishing first in the Cranberry Tournament knocking off Mt. Lebanon 4-1 in the semi-finals and rallying from a 3-0 deficit to top Butler 4-3 in the final. A special highlight of the season was the team’s performance in the PONY Bronco Super-Regional Tournament held July 22 –26 at the Vincentian Baseball Complex. MCAA competed against the region’s best teams and finished one run short of qualifying for a trip to North Carolina to represent the West Region in the PONY Bronco Zone Tournament falling 6-5 to Chambersburg in the championship game. Earlier in the tournament, MCAA outslugged Chambersburg 18-8 and bounced back after trailing 8-1 to overcome perennial power Washington 11-9.
